What topics for a training are important for a child care provider (sitter) to attend. If it were your sitter.

I work for a non profit child care program and every other month our child care providers are required to attend them. Now I need new ideas for our up coming training.

Diversity and cross-cultural ethics training would be most important i feel.

    First aid,
Risk assessment (spotting things that can be hazardous to little ones)
Knowledge of what to do in an emergency, how to contact parents in the event of an emergency,
    Fire regulations,
and When children are being potty trained, getting them to toilets in time.

Also, they need to know how to communicate with parents and follow up any requests for schedules that are in place at home so as to not cause confusion.

think about what you have a need for right now……are the workers making a lot of mistakes in one area? Do you need to remind workers about child nutrition? Health and safety?

If not, early childhood literacy is a fun one. You can talk about the importance of reading to babies and children and the benefits of babies and children being exposed to language in a positive way.
Look up the topic on line for more ideas.

I would only hire a sitter old enough to drive ( for emergencies only) therefore some sort of driver’s ed course. A must is CPR classes with a course in infant/child CPR and Heimlich class.

If it were a day care center I would hope they followed up with all toy recalls. Fire safety classes. The same CPR and Heimlich courses. Maybe even some parenting classes.

First aid, child dispute resolution, discipline methods, how to spot abuse, play time activities, relaxation techniques, dietary requirements of children. Also specific areas such as sign language could be addressed or dealing with special needs and their psychological or medical requirements.
