For parents of children 12 and under, the child care tax deduction can be a life saver to working parents. Parents should become familiar with the tax information regarding the child care tax deduction. If they aren't sure what to do, there are many tax professionals which can offer tax advice on how to claim this deduction. All of this can help them when it comes time to file taxes online.

The first thing a parent has to know is the criteria for the child care deduction. The criteria are as follows:

-- The child must be 12 years old or younger. If the child is 13 or older, you must show that the child is either physically and/or mentally unable to care for themselves. If the child is 13 and up and is mentally or physically disabled, you may also deduct adult daycare expenses.

--You must provide a home for the child or adult dependent by paying over half the expenses for the maintenance of the home for the dependent. You can not deduct child care or dependent care for a person that does not live with you. The childcare provider you employ can not be another dependent. This means that if your older children watch your younger children, this can be not be used for the child care deduction unless they are 19 years old or over and no longer qualify as a dependent.

--Your child care provider has to give you their name or business name if there is one, an address, and a Social Security or Employer Identification Number. This information will be reported on your 2441 form so that you can claim the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit.

Parents have other deductions that they can claim on their taxes online or on paper. There is the Child Tax Credit, which can be up to $1,000 per qualified child. A child qualifies if the child's living expenses are paid by the parent for more then one half of the year and the child is not being claimed by anyone else. The child must also be 16 or younger by the end of the year to qualify as a dependent.

Another deduction for parents is the Earned Income Tax Credit. It was designed to help lower income families with their day to day expenses. If you need tax advice on how to claim this credit, you can check out the IRS website or contact a tax professional.

Checking yearly for changes in tax laws is always a good thing to start with, as there may be new deductions to help struggling families with their taxes.

Many people opt to buy tax preparation software to help them file their taxes. The programs walk the taxpayer through the filing process, asking them questions and using their answers to determine what they qualify for. If you are unfamiliar with how best to fill out your taxes, it might be worth buying one of these programs. They typically come with an option that all you to file taxes online right through the program. This can make the tax process much easier and can provide the taxpayer with additional savings.

By: Natalie Aranda

About the Guest Author:

Childcare vouchers have become the pre-eminent, tax-free method of payment in the United Kingdom, and are also exempt from national insurance. This scheme offers all employed parents that have children, not older than 16, childcare vouchers. These vouchers are used as payment for day nurseries, nannies, childminders, holiday clubs, as well as breakfast and after school clubs. In order to achieve the tax and NIC savings and receive the childcare voucher benefit, parents agree to sacrifice a portion of their annual salary.

Parents can also be assured when selecting a childcare provider that they have undergone rigorous vetting procedures. Before childcare vouchers can be used to pay providers the provider must be registered with an approved regulatory body and will need to meet the standards set out by that body. Ensuring only registered providers can accept vouchers for payment offers additional peace of mind to mums knowing that their child is being looked after in a safe friendly environment.

The use of childcare vouchers is very simple. Some are available electronically for increased efficiency and convenience. The day care provider will get timely and secure payments with no hassle. Many places that offer vouchers also have some additional benefits such as childcare hotlines where you can get the latest information on day cares and childcare workers. Whether looking for a full time provider or one for emergency use, you can get the information quickly and pay for the services via the childcare vouchers.

The amount you claim for childcare is deduced from you salary which is repaid in the form of funds exclusive of the taxes and insurance payments.

If going for the childcare vouchers option you need to way up your own personal circumstances first as some people may be better claiming extra child care vouchers or working tax credits. If in doubt you should really get independent advice with an organization such as the Citizens Advice Bureau as they should tell you which is the better option for you.

When it comes to pre-school child care, there is assistance out there, in terms of both helping employees meet the cost and find the care. The key is to consider the type of help the employee needs, the budget involved and the age of the pre-schooler. The first thing is help with funding, and, with a little-known government scheme, it's possible for employees to pay for childcare from pre-tax income, using vouchers they buy through salary sacrifice.

The government has also expanded the number of free early-education places it offers. At present, this is not full-time care. But three- and four-year-olds are guaranteed a free, part-time (12.5 hours per week, 38 weeks per year), early-education place, including state, private and voluntary sectors, across the country.

Naturally they are looking for the best day nursery where they can safely leave their children. So there is always a challenge for you to make your nursery the best among the rest. First, the safety measures should be taken care of. Secondly, there should be lot of open space in the nursery with enough fresh air. You should also have all the necessary nursery equipments so that children can take part in as much nursery activities as possible.

By: Peter Crux

About the Guest Author:

Setting up a quality childcare is only part of what's needed to have a successful
program. You also need to let parents know about your business. Since most
home-based childcare providers do not have a lot of money to spend on
advertising, a little creativity can help you reach parents who are looking for care.

Networking is a strong tool. Make sure that everybody you know knows that you
provide childcare. That way, if they hear of a parent looking for care, they can refer
that parent to you. Add your business name and current openings to your voicemail
or answering machine message. Parents looking for childcare will know instantly
whether you have openings for the age(s) they need. Announce current openings to
parents who currently have childcare in your care. Parents who are current
customers are strong references for parents who are looking for care.

Parents who are current customers can help you find new families. Start a referral
program, where current families can get a discounted rate or bonus if they refer a
new family to you. For each referral that signs a contract, the referring family could
get a free day of childcare, or care for a parents' night out.

If you don't already have one, consider creating a website. More and more people
are using the internet to find childcare, and a website is a great way to give parents
more information about the care you provide. Several companies offer free or low-
cost web space, although the websites allowed by these companies will be fairly
basic. If you would like a little more polished and complex website, plan on
spending several hundred dollars to get it started.

Advertising online can also be an effective and inexpensive way to reach parents.
Directory sites like Daycare
Providers allow you to reach parents instantly and
nationwide. You can manage your own profile, update your openings, and tell
parents in-depth information about the care you provide. Many providers also
report having success by posting ads on free classifieds websites. Placing an ad in a
newspaper is typically expensive, and providers have reported mixed results with
these ads resulting in new families signing contracts.

Target your advertising efforts where parents tend to gather. Ask toy stores or
children's boutiques if you can display some brochures by the cashier. Ask your
local hospital if you can leave brochures for the parents taking birthing classes. Put
your business card in trick-or-treat bags at Halloween. The more you can get your
business name out there, the better your chances of reaching parents interested in
care.

Use creativity when coming up with inexpensive ways to advertise. However, make
sure you consider safety. While a sign in your front yard may be an effective and
inexpensive way to advertise that you provide childcare, it also alerts every passerby
that there may be several children in the home, a potential safety risk. When
creating brochures or a website, don't use your exact address. Rather use a close
intersection - on the corner of Park and Solomon - or a close landmark - behind
Southgate Mall. Parents can still get an idea of where you are located, but you can
save your actual address to give out in person or over the phone.

With a little creativity, some hard work, and networking, you can build a strong
childcare program and help keep your openings full. Keep your marketing efforts
constant, so that you don't need to scramble when you have an opening, but little
enough that you have plenty of time to spend with your little ones.

By: Melissa Newby

About the Guest Author:

The hunt for the basic childcare guidelines should start as soon as you get to know your due date. The reason behind this is that the early start provides us with ample time to go through all the available childcare options. Before settling with a particular childcare provider, many things have to be considered. In case you are planning to opt for an in-home caretaker, then you must be sure about the caregiver's professional at least for the last five years. For this, you can take references from the past employers of the caretaker. This is important because it is not mandatory for caretakers to have a license. You need to ask for phone numbers and names. You should also not hesitate to talk to people who know the caretaker and have employed them before. You need to be very cautious while choosing the in-house caregiver as they are quite expensive and will also have to stay with your child even when you might be out. Thus, do not go for a caregiver who is not able to provide enough information about his/her past records.

The next option that is available is family childcare. These types of environment are more casual and are less expensive and also have only a limited number of children enrolled in it. This kind of childcare makes it mandatory for you drop and pick up your kid from a certain person's place. In many cases, you will be charged more if you are going to pick your child later than usual. Remember that these caregivers are doing it as a nine-to-five business. However, it is important that you see to it that they are licensed as how they do their work differs from every individual caretaker. Thus, the references from other similar parents are of prime importance.

The next alternative is to leave your kid at a day care centre which has been licensed. But, the point to be noted here is that your child will receive less individual attention in here. Another negative impact of this is that your child may develop illness that might be caused due to interaction between so many children. However, the benefits of such types of day care centers are many. They do not have very strict rules about the timings and your child will be able to interact with more number of children and learn more in the process.

The best time to visit all prospective childcare centers is before you have your kid. You can make checklists and notes for future reference before you select the perfect place for your tiny tot. You can also make use of the many websites providing such information for this purpose. In case you plan to get back to your work after the maternity leave period, having a number of providers waiting will make your back to work schedule less stressful. The best thing to do in such cases is to opt for an on-call day care provider who can drop in to take care of your kid even during emergencies when you need someone to take care of your kid urgently. This would surely help you to get adjusted and get back to your schedule.

By: Abhishek Agarwal

About the Author:
